Scientific Glass Blower 

Summary:

Cannon Instrument Company is seeking an enthusiastic, detail oriented, self-motivated, and reliant individual to fill our open Scientific Glass Blower position and produce the highest quality glass apparatus possible. The ideal candidates will be able to follow verbal instructions and procedures, read and interpret technical drawings, communicate effectively both verbally and in written form, and possess outstanding scientific glass blowing skills. We are looking for team members who are self-directed, responsible, and flexible. Good team fit is important.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Operation of glassblowing lathe torch and wet saw.
  • Material preparation as needed.
  • Must be capable of performing basic glass lathe functions to documented quality standards, and within established time standards.
  • Able to consistently check workmanship and dimensional integrity to ensure it meets specification and size tolerances.
  • Must perform job functions in accordance with established safety rules/practices.
  • Must be competent at working with close tolerances.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: 

  • Ability to read calipers, rule and interpret information on drawings.
  • Minimum three years’ experience.
  • Mastery of items in duties list.
  • Basic math skills a must.
  • Must be willing to work with open flame.
  • Ability to follow all safety precautions a must.

Technical Support Specialist

Summary:

The Technical Support Specialist manages successful customer relationships and is the first point of contact when they require assistance. Ideal candidate is eager to work directly with our clients daily, stays organized, positive and focused in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Research various problems to provide appropriate responses to end users, be able to perform basic & advanced troubleshooting and assist users through proper procedures.
  • Resolve issues regarding malfunctioning of apparatus or software systems and analyzing necessary software requirements.
  • Identify and escalate situations requiring urgent attention.
  • Interact daily with supervisors and other technical personnel on the daily status of events with the customer.
  • Develop and prepare communications, help materials, online demos, and guides for internal and external clients.
  • Work with knowledge managers to create and review internal knowledge management tools and technology.
  • Develop techniques and procedures for organizing, locating, and enabling access to relevant data and expertise required to address specific business tasks.
  • Create, implement, and reinforce guidelines and best practices for knowledge management.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist with management of data categorization, storage, and retention.
  • Understanding of a technical support environment and processes, including ability to document case histories clearly, accurately and with detail. Ability to prioritize workflows effectively according to multiple criteria. Experience with CRM systems, mobile case/ticketing systems, and bug-tracking systems.
  • Maintain a high level of personal productivity, focused on responding quickly and effectively to customers via phone and email.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: 

  • Associates degree in either Computer/Technical Science, or related field required.
  • Three to five years of related professional experience required.
  • Previous experience in IT, customer service, or other related fields.
  • Customer focused, a team player, and able to work on multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Personal skills suitable for frequent direct contact with non-technical customers in technical troubleshooting scenarios. A positive, friendly manner on the phone and in writing is essential, as well as patience and the ability to instruct and inform during the course of troubleshooting.
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize work, be proactive, take initiative, resolve problems, follow through, and simultaneously manage multiple priorities to ensure goals are met in a timely manner.

Mechanical Design Engineer

Summary:

This position will work within the product development team to design, develop, and research new technologies that will further expand the product line of laboratory instrumentation. Provide hands on engineering expertise required for the research and launch of new products as well as the support and upgrading of existing products and related systems.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the research, design, and testing of critical mechanical and electro-mechanical process systems, properties, and subsystems integral to supporting and developing new distillation packing manufacturing machinery.
  • Responsible for developing engineering documentation of legacy machinery.
  • Design and develop improvements to existing machinery in effort to expand overall productive capacity and throughput.
  • Maximize the concepts of Lean Manufacturing.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to sales, marketing, service and manufacturing.
  • Other duties as required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: 

  • Bachelor of Science or higher in Engineering Science, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or other related discipline.
  • Five or more years of hands-on industry experience.
  • Strong knowledge of material properties.
  • Working knowledge of process simulation software a plus
  • Familiarity with distillation processes a strong plus
  • Working experience/knowledge inspecting machinery for operational fitness
  • Working knowledge reviewing maintenance parts for wear
  • Strong technical problem solving and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Motivated self-starter willing to work in a small team
  • Proficient with Solidworks or related CAD package.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Hands-on working knowledge of CNC machining and lathe operation.
  • Capable of bench work and precision measurement a plus.

Western US Technical Sales Representative

Summary:

This position is responsible for generating new orders for Cannon instrumentation* and supplies in the Western US Region (which includes AK, AZ, CA, CO, HI, ID, MT, NM, NV, OR, WA and WY). The Western US Technical Sales Representative will provide technical sales support to existing and potential customers, maintain frequent commercial contact with customer base, conduct field demonstrations of equipment, and make sales calls throughout the territory visiting customers in their facility. This position requires travel outside of the home and office more than 50% of the time.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain strong customer relations through personal visits and other means.
  • Determine and analyze customer needs and offer our company’s products to fulfill them.
  • Make phone calls and presentations to customers and potential customers.
  • Scout and develop new customers and new opportunities.
  • Expedite the resolution of customer problems/complaints.
  • Evaluate performance results.
  • Interface with internal groups to ensure that customers are satisfied and have one primary contact.
  • Provide management with accurate forecasts and reports as needed.
  • Record information on competitive products, applications, markets, competitive activities, etc.
  • Willingness and ability to travel more than 50% primarily in the northeast, but also throughout North America.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in business or technical discipline.
  • Three or more years of experience as a technical sales representative in B2B sales.
  • Proficient in the use of Word, Excel or other technical software.
  • Capable of performing work accurately and efficiently.
  • Proficient at reading comprehension, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in human relation skills.
  • Self-motivating and willing to work hard without close supervision
