Sample testing per ASTM methodology with fast, accurate results
Our testing lab now offers five separate ASTM tests for viscosity measurements on fuels and lubricants:
- Kinematic Viscosity per ASTM D 445 at all temperatures between –30°C and +150°C
- High Temperature High Shear Viscosity per ASTM D 5481 at 150°C and 100°C
- Cranking Viscosity per ASTM D 5293 at
–35, –30, –25, –20, –15, –10, and –5°C
- Pumping Viscosity per ASTM D 4684 at
–40, –35, –30, –25, –20, –15, and –10°C
- Borderline Pumping Temperature and/or Pumping Viscosity per ASTM D 3829 at –40, –35, –30, –25, –20, –15, and –10°C
Our Standard Service provides results delivered by fax within five working days of sample receipt except for multiple-day tests. For multiple-day tests, the results will be delivered within three test cycles of sample receipt.
Certified kinematic viscosity and viscosity determinations may also be requested for glass capillary viscometry. It will normally require four weeks to provide certified test results.
All samples will be held for a minimum of 30 days. Test data will be retained for three years following testing.
Custom testing of client materials is available subject to availability of equipment and personnel.

Rush Service!
Cannon® has inaugurated a Rush Service for even faster viscosity testing.
Customers sending us samples for viscosity testing will be able to receive test results within a day for most tests. The fast testing service is available by request for an additional 50 percent surcharge over regular test rates.
Test results will be faxed to the customer within 24 hours of the time the sample is received at our loading dock, with the exception of tests like ASTM D 4684 and ASTM D 3829 that require more than one day to complete. For multiple day tests, the results will be delivered within one test cycle of the sample receipt.
After the test results have been faxed, a formal test report will be mailed to the customer within five working days of the completion of the test.
The test results provided by the accelerated service will be extremely accurate, but not certified. Certification requires us to do additional paperwork in order to document traceability. It is impractical for us to prepare the documentation required for certification within the abbreviated time schedule of our accelerated testing program.
