AFP-102, 202 Cold Filter Plugging Point Tester

The model AFP-102 automatically executes the Cold Filter Plugging Point (CFPP) test method prescribed in IP309, ASTM D6371 and JIS K2288. This third-generation model features Tanaka’s latest technological innovations, enhancing performance and ease of operation.
The model AFP-202 provides two test heads for enhanced throughput, automating the Cold Filter Plugging Point (CFPP) test method prescribed in IP309, ASTM D6371 and JIS K2288. Critical operation and performance parameters are identical to the AFP-102.


Methanol-Free Operation
AFP models use thermoelectric cooling/heating; no methanol is required. A small chiller with a water/antifreeze mixture suffices for cooling.

Dual Cooling Modes
Mode of cooling can be selected from linear cooling and conventional step-wise cooling.

Simple and Easy Operation
Operation is through a simple membrane keypad, which is standard on more than half of Tanaka’s automatic petroleum testers. The operation is simple and intuitive.

Reliable Meniscus Detection
Upper and lower meniscus detectors are mounted on a holder that slides back and forth to engage with the pipette. This new design allows not only easy operation but also reliable detection under the conditions when the pipette is frosted.

CFPP Detection:
By means of a photo-electric detector consisting of an LED, photo transistor, and light guide (fiber optics).

Consists of a micro air pump, pressure switch, solenoid valve and a plastic bottle.

Cooling and Heating (needs optional chiller):
By TED(Thermo Electric Device). The hot side of the TED needs to be cooled by an external chiller.

Temperature Control:
By step(-34oC, -51oC and -67oC) or linear. The linear cooling rate can be programmed.

Safety Features:

  • Overtemp cutoff: as hot side of TED reaches 60oC , warning buzzer beeps and operations are suspended
  • Self diagnostic: reported by an intermittent buzzer and a text message when any temperature sensor breaks down or the battery has drained.
  • System trouble: reported by a buzzer if the built-in microprocessor experiences a fault condition.

Data Output:
RS-232C 1 channel (for PC or Optional Printer).
2nd set channel is optional.
